AlUla in Saudi Arabia has unveiled the design of AlUla Manara, an astronomy and astrotourism facility located within the world's third-largest Dark Sky Park. Designed by Heatherwick Studio, the landmark will feature immersive exhibitions, a planetarium, observation deck and real-time scientific research capabilities. The project, approved by the Royal Commission for AlUla, supports Saudi Vision 2030's goals to establish the kingdom as a global leader in astronomy and space sciences.
The facility draws architectural inspiration from cosmic geometries including galaxies, planetary rings and stellar patterns. It will be situated between two nature reserves beneath some of Earth's clearest night skies, offering visitors direct engagement with astronomical research and celestial heritage rooted in the region's historical traditions of celestial navigation. The project expands AlUla's positioning as a world-class astrotourism destination.
