Go-bags and pet food: Experts talk disaster prep at Navy base in Japan

Naval Air Facility Atsugi in Japan held a disaster evacuation seminar June 30 for about 30 service members and families, instructing them on emergency preparedness in a region prone to earthquakes, typhoons, and tsunamis. Base officials emphasized maintaining 72-hour emergency kits with essential documents, medications, food, water, and pet supplies, with resources available at Ready.gov and commercial suppliers. The Navy plans evacuation exercises July 20-24 at Atsugi and two other Japanese installations to familiarize personnel with evacuation procedures.
