Sen. Adam Schiff proposes bill to help communities rebuild faster after wildfires and other disasters

U.S. Sen. Adam Schiff introduced bipartisan legislation Tuesday to extend the federal funding window for communities rebuilding after wildfires and disasters. The Reducing Red Tape for Rebuilding Act would allow local governments to receive Federal Emergency Management Agency funding for building code enforcement staff for up to two years after a disaster, up from the current 180-day limit, and let municipalities choose when that period begins. The bill, co-sponsored by Sen. Joni Ernst, has support from the National Fire Protection Association, National Emergency Management Association and other organizations.
