US strikes southern Iran, Tehran claims attacks on US military sites

The United States struck Iranian military targets in the southern region Tuesday, hitting over 80 sites with precision munitions in response to Iranian attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, the US Central Command said. Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it subsequently targeted 85 US military installations in Bahrain and Kuwait with drones, including Sheikh Isa airbase in Bahrain. The exchange threatens a ceasefire agreement reached last month between Washington and Tehran, though neither country has signaled plans to abandon ongoing negotiations.
