Police seek Chatham killer Jenkins after he walks away from prison

Mason Jenkins, 49, a Chatham, Ontario man serving a life sentence for the 1998 first-degree murder of his sister Jennifer, escaped Thursday from Collins Bay Institution minimum-security prison in Kingston. Correctional Service of Canada staff discovered Jenkins missing during an 11:15 a.m. count. Chatham-Kent police are coordinating with partner agencies to locate Jenkins, described as a white male, five-foot-nine, 255 pounds, last seen wearing a light green jacket and blue jeans. Jenkins was convicted in 2001 of shooting his 18-year-old sister five times in the head and chest in their family home on Jan. 6, 1998. Police urge residents to remain vigilant and report any information to Sgt. Paul Brophy.
