Shelter Island Police Department reported multiple traffic and maritime violations during late June 2026. Melecio de la Cruz Mayen, 39, was arrested June 29 on charges of third-degree assault with intent to cause physical injury and third-degree strangulation following a domestic incident; he was released on $15,000 bail with an order of protection issued. Alexa N. DeMatteis, 31, of Pennsylvania was arrested June 20 after an e-bike accident on charges including driving while intoxicated, unsafe lane changes, and equipment violations; she was treated for injuries and released on a court appearance ticket. The department also issued summonses for speeding, unregistered vehicles, suspended registrations, and maritime violations, and responded to two minor parking-lot collisions and several vessel complaints.
