Portland man faces slew of charges, including attempted murder, in alleged July 4 weekend crime spree

A Portland man, Michael Devon Herring, 32, faces nearly a dozen felony charges including attempted murder after allegedly shooting two men during separate incidents over the July Fourth weekend and robbing a woman days later. The first shooting occurred July 4 near Southeast Grand Avenue and Washington Street, when Herring allegedly confronted two brothers, fired at one inside a car, and engaged in a firefight that left his target hospitalized with injuries to his stomach, kidney, lung and ribs plus spinal cord damage. Herring is accused of attempted murder, first- and second-degree assault, multiple weapons violations, two counts of first-degree robbery and felon in possession of a firearm.
