UNESCO and LG AI Research launched a free, globally accessible massive open online course on artificial intelligence ethics July 20 in Seoul, hosted on Coursera. The course, grounded in UNESCO's 2021 Recommendation on AI Ethics adopted by 193 member states, aims to translate ethical principles into practical skills for those developing, deploying and governing AI systems across ten modules covering fairness, privacy, transparency, safety, sustainability and governance.
The MOOC is designed for technologists, policymakers, researchers, students and AI professionals worldwide. It emphasizes practical application through adaptable frameworks, real-world case studies and reflective exercises to help practitioners navigate ethical trade-offs in AI development and deployment. The course represents a public-private partnership model, co-developed with LG AI Research and supported by Coursera as distribution partner.
