A joint industry project of 14 major oil and gas operators and technology vendors has released updated guidance for electric intelligent wells, known as IWIS 2.0. The standardised practice, facilitated by OTM Networks, introduces recommendations for power, communications and mechanical interfaces to support advanced electric completions requiring higher power levels and improved subsea integration. The update introduces a standardised Interface Module to reduce duplication and integration effort across different vendors' equipment. Operators including Shell, bp, Equinor and TotalEnergies collaborated with service providers including Baker Hughes, Halliburton and SLB OneSubsea on the 18-month project.
