Disaster zone declared across Bangkok as heavy rain triggers flooding

Bangkok authorities declared a disaster zone across all 50 districts Saturday after three consecutive days of rainfall dumped nearly 300mm of rain, submerging roads, canals, homes and shops. Governor Chadchart Sittipunt said the eastern part of the capital was most severely affected and warned more rain was forecast, though officials expect flooding to recede once precipitation subsides. The government said the situation had stabilized but cautioned it would take two to three days for waters to drain completely.
