Illinois-led team selected for DOE Genesis Mission award

A University of Illinois-led team led by chemical and biomolecular engineering professor Huimin Zhao has won a Phase I award from the U.S. Department of Energy's Genesis Mission to develop artificial intelligence foundation models for metabolic engineering. The project aims to create AI tools that help scientists design microorganisms to produce renewable chemicals, fuels and materials more efficiently by learning from diverse biological datasets.
