Ukraine fires over 1,000 drones at Russia including largest attack on Moscow

Ukrainian forces fired over 1,000 drones at Russia overnight, including hundreds targeting Moscow, in what the city's mayor called the largest-ever attack on the capital. The assault damaged a Moscow oil refinery and a residential building, killing two people and wounding 20 across the wider Moscow region, according to local officials. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the strike used domestically made missiles and drones to hit oil and logistics facilities, aiming to pressure Russia's economy and force negotiations.

The attack occurred as Russia concluded its three-day parliamentary election, the first held during wartime. Moscow's Defense Ministry claimed it shot down 1,100 Ukrainian drones nationwide. Ukraine has emerged as a global leader in military drone technology since Russia's 2022 invasion, deploying long-range systems for strikes deep inside Russian territory.
