Emotion and politics merge in Tehran at funeral of former supreme leader

Vast crowds gathered in Tehran on Sunday for the funeral of Iran's former supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in joint US-Israeli strikes at the start of the war. His successor and second son, Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, was absent from the ceremony, while his three other sons attended. Iranian state media said six days of ceremonies will take place across Iran and Iraq before his burial in Mashhad on Thursday.
