Quantum Dot Imaging Technique Reveals Hidden Light Waves on Metal Surfaces

Researchers at Osaka Metropolitan University have developed a quantum dot imaging technique that visualizes surface plasmon polaritons — light waves that travel along metal surfaces and are normally invisible to the naked eye. The method could accelerate development of next-generation optical and plasmonic technologies by making these electromagnetic waves at metal-dielectric boundaries directly observable.
