Nigerian attempts to break world record by dancing non-stop for seven days

BBC World · September 29, 2026

Benjamin Daniel, a 33-year-old Nigerian professional dancer known as Ben Dancer, is attempting to dance non-stop for 168 hours to break the Guinness World Record for longest dance marathon. The current record of 127 hours was set by Indian dancer Srushti Sudhir Jagtap in 2023. Daniel's attempt began September 22 at Freedom Park in Lagos, drawing crowds of supporters and going viral on social media.

Daniel, who has danced professionally for 18 years, is incorporating Nigeria's diverse dance traditions and music genres including Afrobeats, fuji, jazz and zouk, along with traditional Nigerian clothing. His team says the performance aims to showcase Nigeria's cultural diversity beyond testing physical endurance. A medical team is on-site providing support, and Daniel is permitted five minutes of rest per hour while maintaining a light diet and fluid intake during the marathon.
