Election voting advice from AI chatbots ‘inaccurate and unreliable’

Researchers testing AI chatbots ChatGPT and Gemini during Hungary's April parliamentary elections found the systems gave inaccurate, inconsistent voting guidance, often recommending wrong parties or omitting viable options. A study by civil liberties group Liberties revealed ChatGPT failed to recommend the opposition Tisza party in 90% of cases when presented with Tisza-aligned voter profiles, while more reliably recommending Viktor Orbán's Fidesz party. The researchers warned that unlike dedicated voting advice sites, general-purpose AI systems lack transparency, produce unreproducible results, and face no electoral oversight, yet appear authoritative to users.
