Taylorsville man accused of taking tens of thousands of dollars from elderly mother

A Taylorsville man, Zachary Stewart, 46, has been charged with financial exploitation of a vulnerable adult and unlawful tracking after allegedly taking over $33,000 from his elderly mother in six months, with police suspecting total theft exceeding $200,000 over several years. According to charging documents, Stewart forced his mother to withdraw cash and made 679 transfers from her account to his money app while tracking her movements via phone and device trackers, causing her to hide cash in pillowcases and fear retaliation. The mother told investigators she does not consent to Stewart accessing her bank card, continues canceling and replacing cards, and has received threatening text messages from him, including threats to punch her when she refused to give him money.
