Russia launches major ballistic missile attack on Ukrainian cities

Russia carried out a major wave of ballistic missile and drone strikes across Ukraine on Sunday, killing at least eight people and injuring dozens, according to Ukrainian officials. The strikes, which President Volodymyr Zelensky described as "one of the most massive ballistic attacks" since the 2022 invasion, targeted cities including Kyiv, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, and Sumy, hitting both residential and non-residential buildings. Ukrainian air defenses shot down 18 of 41 missiles and intercepted 108 drones over the capital, while Russia did not comment on a separate incident in which missiles struck a Turkish-owned civilian cargo ship carrying grain in the Black Sea, killing five people.

In response, Ukraine said it struck three Russian oil tankers and three oil depots in Russia's Stavropol region, with Zelensky stating the targets "finance Russian aggression." The Caspian Pipeline Consortium reported its Black Sea terminal was hit, damaging two tankers and suspending oil loading operations. The latest Russian strikes came after Ukrainian drone attacks destroyed two Wildberries warehouses near Moscow on Saturday, killing eight people and causing major fires.
