At least 111 dead as 7.4-magnitude earthquake strikes Colombia

A 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck western Colombia on Monday, killing at least 111 people and injuring at least 87, making it the largest quake on record for the South American nation. The epicenter was near San José del Palmar in rural Chocó province, about 250 miles west of Bogotá, hitting at approximately 8:34 a.m. ET and followed by a 5.0-magnitude aftershock within an hour, according to the U.S. Geological Survey and Colombia's seismic agency. The quake caused major damage across the region.
